Was it always that way? HECK NO!
Here’s my quick (well maybe not so quick) story of how I went from “down-sized” to “down right” successful and ridiculously profitable in less than a year.
I had my degree in psychology, had become a certified coach and was swimming along in corporate America. I wasn’t “happily” swimming but I was swimming. I had a 401k, benefits, vacation days, and a pretty nice paycheck. The “not happily” swimming part was because I felt stuck in a job where my talents were being wasted, I was burnt out and felt like something was missing!
But, it was better than not having a job right? I had always dreamed of having my own business (I came from an entrepreneurial family) but had a job that took all of my time so my dream stayed on the back burner…until I was suddenly let go after 8 years!
Now, here’s the real kicker
10 months before that, my husband’s employment contract came to an end and he wasn’t working…ARGGHHH!! So, mortgage (yep), car payments (yep), bills (yep), income (NO!) While we were looking for jobs we were pulling money out of savings and investments and panic was more than setting in. I was SO tired of the W-2 lifestyle and really wanted to do the work that I loved and get paid well for it…but how?
So I decided to take the bull by the horns and start my own business.
I excitedly opened the doors to my business only to find that no one was waiting to come in
Within a short period of time, I felt like the bull had kicked me in the behind! I was completely overwhelmed with things like: How do I get clients? How should I market myself? What kind of website do I need? How do I stand out in the marketplace? How do talk about my fees? How will I pay my bills? Sitting in my office on a Friday afternoon I had one of those “breathing out of a paper bag” moments…Had I made a big mistake? Could I really do this? Should I go back to the W2 grind? Had my dream become a nightmare? Sound familiar?
I needed to do something and I needed to do it pronto...like yesterday!
So, I immersed myself in learning everything I could about building a successful business. I worked with mentors and expert coaches. I took the best seminars and training courses. I got the most comprehensive home study courses. I absorbed it all like a sponge and quickly developed the expertise I needed to achieve breakthrough results in business.
How to find the right clients - how to enroll them - how to retain them - how to charge significant fees - how to move into multiple streams of business.
